The Truth Behind BLACKPINK Slow Comebacks Revealed!

Korea JoongAng Daily recently published an article discussing BLACKPINK's relatively slow comebacks compared to other girl groups such as TWICE and (G)-IDLE, and whether the reason behind this is due to the quartet being "too slow" or K-pop being "too fast." BLINKs, the fandom of BLACKPINK, have previously voiced their complaints about the long time gap between the group's music releases, leading to speculation about whether the agency is mistreating them.

Insiders consulted by the media outlet revealed that YG Entertainment's founder and producer, Yang Hyun Suk, is reportedly obsessed with perfection, which may be the reason for the slow comebacks. He is known to be meticulous and requires approval over every aspect of a song, including the lyrics, which may contribute to the long periods between releases. Furthermore, the company has faced numerous controversies since 2019, which has made releasing new music even more difficult.

Music critics also noted that BLACKPINK relies less on music to earn income and is busy as global ambassadors to top luxury brands. Jisoo represents Cartier and Dior, Jennie represents Chanel, Lisa represents Celine, and Rosé represents Yves Saint Laurent. While the quartet may take longer to return to the K-pop scene, critics stated that as a "global pop star," the time taken is not that long, considering the group's rise to international fame alongside artists like Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus.

Recently, BLACKPINK broke the Spice Girls' record and became the girl group with the highest world tour sales. The "BORN PINK" world tour began in Seoul in October 2022 and ended in December 2022, with a total of 26 performances in 18 cities, attracting a total of 366,248 spectators and generating sales of $78,480,521. Critics noted that while BLACKPINK may have fewer comebacks than other girl groups, they have achieved unprecedented success as global pop stars.
